RAA Designation

What is an RAA Designation?

At Integrated Assets, our appraisers are Residential Accredited Appraiser (RAA) designated. What does this mean? RAA designations are awarded by the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® (NAR) that specialize in residential real estate appraising. Earning this designation establishes that a State General Appraiser has completed additional appraisal education above and beyond what’s required for qualification as a general appraiser.

In 1991, NAR established “The Appraisal Section” after the former American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers voted to disaffiliate with NAR and merge with the society of Real Estate Appraisers to form the Appraisal Institute. In 1994, the section created two designations, General Accredited Appraiser (GAA) and RAA for Appraisal Section members who meet tested education requirements that exceed the requirements for state licensing. Appraisers can obtain both designations. The program was approved by NAR’s Board of Directors at the 1993 Annual Convention.

Designates must meet the following criteria for the RAA designation:

  • Must have a minimum of 1,000 hours appraisal work experience in addition to state certification experience
  • Complete 45 hours of tested course work in addition to the Appraiser Qualification Board’s education requirement
  • Must be a member in good standing of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® or one of its five affiliates
  • Must hold a current state certified appraiser license
